Tips on how to sew on GumTec poppers

These poppers are made of gum and can be sewn on by machine. There are two different sizes, 28mm and 28mm and they are available in the colours black or transparent, with metal or plastic surfaces. These clasps are especially suitable for large and wide clothes as their closing power is smaller in comparison to the stamped in poppers. Once sewn on, only the square seam of the popper is visible. Therefore, the thread needs to be adjusted. The top thread (visible on the popper) is usually black or grey, the bottom one is adjusted according to the colour of the fabric.

Use the zip foot to sew on the popper. Adjust the needle position in order to create a suitable distance to the popper when lowering the needle. The span of the top thread has to be regulated very tightly so that no loops are created by the lower thread (except for Brother).

Leave the threads as long as possible at both ends in order to finish off nicely. Now start sewing at one corner of the popper. Always turn the material around in the same direction in order to avoid a stitch being pulled over the corner. The finishing off with a back stitch proves to be difficult so do it by hand.
